Who Can I Trust For At Home Employment?

A site visitor emailed me recently about working from home and here is the question she sent me. This is part of my last post about your #1 questions on working from home.

I want to work from home. I stay at home with our 2 year old son. But I am unsure about who to trust in regards to employment for staying at home. Any Advice?

Dear Mom Who Wants To Work At Home,

First of all let me say that there are real jobs that moms and others can do from home. However, there are also many scams out there. I hope the information I provide here can point you in the right direction as to who you can trust and who you should not trust.

One of the big warning signs of a scam would be a job that requires you to invest money. You should never pay to work from home. An employer should pay you and not the other way around. There are several reputable companies that hire people that want to work from home. I would also like to honestly point out that those jobs that say make jewelry or gifts at home or stuff envelopes at home are, sadly, mostly scams in my experience.

I have put together a list of companies that hire people from home below. You can do these jobs in the comfort of your own home. However, they do require a computer and phone and some do require a couple other pieces of office equipment depending on the job you are qualified for.
You would apply for these jobs like any other. Specifically, by submitting your resume.

Here are a few reputable companies that can be trusted. However, as always, you still have to do what is best for you. I also suggest looking up a company with the better business bureau and do online searches about their credibility before you decide to take a job with a company you are not familiar with.

I will post the link to each of these at home job companies and it will take you to their website.

There are many other things you can do to make money from home as well.

There are blogging jobs, writing jobs, freelancing jobs, and you can even start your own home-based business. I'll focus more on this in my next post. I hope this helps anyone who wants to know who they can trust when working from home.

I would just like to make it clear that if you work WITH a company from home not for a company then it is YOUR OWN business and it would require an overhead cost. All true businesses have overhead cost but in turn for this cost the coporate office should supply you with support such as taking care of all Administration work, technical support and customer service. One fine example of this is www.freedomathometeam.com/KMarshall

There are so many smart and wonderful options, and it's great to have a guide who knows her stuff..

Robyn Spizman, who's on TV a lot with her gift ideas etc., has a new book called Work From Home and Win, which talks about the many options for turning talents into a business. It's at www.WorkFromHomeAndWin.com for
those who would like to check it out.

I'm a hairstylist at the moment and a receptionist at my parents business. I plan on having a baby and starting a family with my husband within the next couple months and my dream was always to be a stay at home mom, but I'm afraid my husband doesn't make enough to support me and a child. But I'm only 19 and I know most places say I'm too young and don't have a lot of the qualifications. But I've always known what I wanted and went for it at a young age. I love art and crafts, I didn't know if you knew of any jobs that delt with it where you could do stuff at home. I really would accept anything though to stay at home with my child. Thank You

You could be a freelance hairdresser, doing to ocassional favor for friends, prom goers, weddings, slumber parties, shut-ins and the like on a when you want to basis. I can't think of the one arts and crafts business I've heard of that is legit, but if you go to www.workplacelikehome.com and search for "arts and crafts" you should be able to find out more. Good luck!
