Five Unique Jobs For Moms or Dads To Earn Cash While At Home

More and more Moms (and Dads) are trying to find ways to earn extra cash while at home caring for their children. I would guess that some of you work out of the home and STILL need ways to earn even more extra cash due to the economy. Some of you might even want some extra money for a vacation, remodeling, or plain old fun! We’ve shared many ways to work from home in the past but today I thought I’d share a few unique jobs that could bring in some extra money!

Pet Sitter – I recently went on a trip to a big city where I saw several “pet resorts”. I lamented that there weren’t any of those around here but we sure could use one. Caring for other people’s pets while they are away or at work could prove to be a fun and lucrative way to earn extra cash. This is one of those jobs where your kids could help too. What child at home wouldn’t want a ton of new animals running around?

Blogger – If you have any writing experience or some college with a passion for a specific subject (TV shows really do count here) then you could make some extra money blogging. If you don’t know what blogging is go here, Want To Be A Professional Blogger? and here, How To Start A Blog. You can start your own blog and wait for the ad revenue to roll in ( it’s a slow process) or you can get hired by a company to blog for them. Being a blogger allows you freedom to work when you can from your home. There really aren’t any set hours. Blogging is something you can do early in the morning, late at night or whenever you get some free time away from the kids.

Birthday Photographer – If you are good with kids and good with capturing special moments quickly then maybe you could be a professional birthday party event photographer. You could photograph the actual even then set up a portable studio for other friends & family members to maximize your income. If you like having fun and taking pictures this may be the job for you! You will need a good reliable camera to get started. Check out our guide over at our partner site, Contests For Moms – Buying Your First DSLR

Ebay or Etsy Crafter – Do you make blankets, hats, or scarves for family and for gifts? How about felt toys, garlands, bows, or clothes? If you are already good at crafting and making unique things then you should consider opening an Etsy store or selling your homemade goods on Ebay. Believe me I’ve bought a ton of stuff on Etsy and I think it’s an awesome way for a crafty person to earn extra $$$.

Party Caterer – This could be something as simple as offering specialty cakes and desserts for a party or as elaborate as a full course meal for an event such as a wedding or reunion. If your passion is cooking and you like events then this may be a great way for you to earn extra money out of your home.

If you have any unique ideas to earn extra cash at home we’d love to hear them. As always, we’d love to connect with you on Facebook and Twitter.

  1. Amanda,

Do you have tips on succeeding on ETSY. I have had a shop for a while, however, I cannot seem to get into the mainstream traffic.

    Thanks,

I would suggest wording your product description the way someone would search for it. Be descriptive. Second I would sell stuff that is currently in demand and trendy. I may do a whole post about this soon. Thanks for the question. :) Best of luck in your Etsy store. I browsed and love the cow apron.

I would suggest creating a Facebook page for your site. “Like” a lot of similiar pages as your business and offer some free giveaways (often these entail having to like your page to sign up for the giveaway). Make certain you have your etsy shop listed. I have a lot of friends who have gotten the word out about their etsy shop this way!

for the etsy crafter, one way to get traffic is to post link to your website or link your web address to your name every time you post a comment. quite naturally a person would want to see what you are talking about when you mention your etsy business. clicking your name leads to a dead end. learn SEO and Marketing tips and you will see an increase of traffic.

    Michelle,
You can also create awareness of your Etsy shop by networking with others via Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, etc. Contests are also a great way to get the word out about your shop! There are so many more ideas on how to get traffic to your site that it’s hard to jot it all down in one comment.

To be a pet sitter, that would be a great job. I am an animal lover and want to earn extra money from home. I have been doing odd & end things since 1999. But never once did it cross my mind to be a pet sitter. Thank you!
