An online guide is someone who is an expert in a specific subject and writes passionately on that topic and/or either answers questions on that topic. This week we received a job submission and it prompted me to write a more in depth post about being an online guide/online expert to make extra money on the Internet. Below I have listed a few websites that are well known and respected for their online guides. They currently have job openings as well. Before I list them I would like to mention that, most likely, you will not get rich from these guide positions but it is a good and fun way to make some extra money each month, and in this economy most of us can use any help we can get.

*Since I'm not familiar as much with this site and compensation is not stated on their site I can only go by what've I read online. Writers range from $50 a month to thousands of dollars per month.

If none of the above appeals to you or you don't get hired by any of these companies you can always start your own website/blog and still share your "expertise" with the world. You can monetize your content with various programs like adsense, affiliate programs,etc. and possibly make a similar amount of money.

Many of you are coming here looking for at home jobs and this is the place to be. However, there are also other things you can do to make money from home while you are going through your job search and all the waiting. One thing you can do to start making some extra money is to blog. So, what is a blog you ask?

A blog is an online diary of sorts or simply put, another website platform that is updated very often. Blogging is free and very easy to do. Here are six simple steps to get you started with blogging and you can be on your way to making extra money very soon.

1. Go to blogger.com or wordpress.com and create a free blog account.

2. Decide on a topic you want to blog about. It can be anything from your personal life to a topic that you are passionate about such as fish aquariums, horses, or fitness. The more passionate and knowledgeable you are on your topic the more likely you are to gain a bigger readership as well as make more money. The idea is to stick to a narrow topic rather than blogging about everything.

3. Go to your blog right now and write an entry then publish it. Your free blog account can show you how. It's very easy.

4. Join some blog directories, blog exchanges, and go and leave comments on other people's blogs that you are interested in. This will get some traffic coming to your site instantly. And, traffic (readers) is one big thing that you need to make extra money from blogging.

5. Post often and try to post atleast once every other day. Many professional bloggers post atleast once per day or sometimes more.

6.) Monetize your blog with Google Adsense ( you can sign up with Adsense over in the left sidebar. I highly recommend Google Adsense), affiliate programs, Blogads, Chitika, Amazon associates, Payperpost, or your very own advertising space where you set the price. The possibilities are endless.
