Niche Marketing

Niche Marketing is an important term to learn if you are a work at home mom and want to continue to grow your home based businesses. Many of us are focused on growing our home-based affiliate and advertising content websites.

What is niche marketing?
Niche Marketing is a marketing segmentation strategy in which your business focuses on serving one segment of the market. A niche is a small distinguishable segment that can be uniquely served. For example, "coffee" would be a general market segment and "hazelnut cream coffee" would be a niche in the coffee market segment.

Why is niche marketing so important?
Niche marketing is important because it is what helps you determine a particular business you are interested in that is not already saturated and thus allowing you to dominate in that niche and make more profits or revenue from your site and/ or home business.

Here is a product that I think is amazing and I highly recommend it!

Work at Home Mom Success Story -Carrie Lauth

What is your home business?

I own several websites and earn my income mostly through
affiliate marketing, and to a lesser extent, advertising.

When did you start?

I started building my first website two years ago but didn't
really understand affiliate marketing and how to market a website
properly until about a year ago.

Are you making money?

Yes. And things are getting better every single month. It's very
exciting to see your income grow, especially when a lot of it is
somewhat passive and residual. Once you set things in motion and
do the correct activities, the traffic and income just starts
growing.

What is your advice to other moms wanting to work from home?

Find a mentor that you trust...someone who is successful in the
field you want to enter, and follow her! I have a couple of
mentors and when they speak, I listen...I buy the ebooks they
recommend, read the articles they write, subscribe to their
newsletter, and study what they do. I'm all about not reinventing
the wheel, and learning from other people's experience. It saves
me time and heartache.

I also believe strongly in investing in myself and my business. I
reinvest a large percentage of my earnings every month in Mom
Masterminds, a mentoring program for serious wahms, and also
educational ebooks or software that will increase my knowledge
(and therefore grow my income) or otherwise save me time and
energy.

What is the best thing about being a WAHM?

The ability to do something "else" (something that isn't related
to mothering, wife, household stuff etc) is, to me, just as nice
as the extra money. We spend so much time meeting the needs of
others, having a home based business can do wonders for our self
esteem and it's great for that "mommy brain" syndrome too ;)

Affiliate Marketing For Work at Home Moms

If you are new to making money on the internet then you need to be made aware of affiliate marketing.

Affiliate marketing is an agreement between two sites in which one site (the affiliate) agrees to feature content or an ad designed to drive traffic to another site. In return, the affiliate receives a percentage of sales from the product they marketed on their site. This means that you make money for promoting/marketing someone else's products. Doesn't this sound great?

Some affiliate programs that I suggest for work at home moms is ClickBank.com , Sharesale.com , AffiliateFuel.com, Amazon.com Websponsors.com, Fastclick.com, and Paydotcom.com

There are several other affiliate programs for moms to join also. These are just the obvious most successful ones. Clickbank.com has tons of products to promote. There is something for everyone there!

Got any affiliate marketing questions? Need further clarification or help? I have just gotten deeper into affiliate marketing and I am really excited about it!

Why Pinging is Good for your Blog and your Business

First of all, if you have a blog then you should ping it. Now you are wondering, what is pinging? Pinging is a way to let other users and other blog tracking sites know that you have updated your blog. You should ping your blog every time you write new content and update your blog. This way others know immediately that your blog has been updated.

Now why is this good for your business?

Pinging lets people know you have updated so they will come back to your site. This allows you to build blog traffic. Your blog is connected to your business or is your business (in my case and many others) and helps to build traffic. Since pinging alerts the major blog tracking sites it then helps search engines crawl and reindex your new content much quicker. This also helps your search engine positioning which is even better for your business.

To ping your blog every time you update your blog, I suggest using Pingomatic.com since it is free. Don't pay for pinging software since this one is truly free and works just as good.

Good luck with your blogging adventure!

Work at Home Mom Success Story - Nell Taliercio

What is your home business?

Well I actually have two businesses. The first one I started was a
virtual
assistance business. I actually fell into it and didn't even put a
website
together until several months ago. I've since revamped the whole
website and
direction of the business and have included my husband.

The second is affiliate marketing. This is my true passion. Since
starting
my very first information website years ago (which I no longer have)
I've
been hooked. I enjoy searching out and/or writing content people will
enjoy
and benefit from and offering affiliate links on the pages so that I
can
also make some money.

It feels good to know there is no limit to the success I have achieve
with
my affiliate marketing business and no limit in websites either.
Currently I
have over 10 and am working my way to at least 31.

Affiliate marketing is perfect for moms because once you build up your
income it's pretty passive. If you do it right you could take days,
weeks or
even months away from your business and still make the money. And tell
me that isn't just amazing!

When did you start?

I started working as a VA (virtual assistant) about three years ago.

I started affiliate marketing around that time as well, but didn't
really
get the hang of it or become successful until a year and a few months
ago.

Are you making money?

Yes I am :) I am actually now making more at home then I did outside
the
home and I only see that growing and growing in time.

What is your advice to other moms wanting to work from
home?

Find something you're passionate about and run with it! Treat your
business
seriously and don't be afraid to spend money on your business.

I've invested in learning materials, coaching and hiring VA's for my
own
business and it has paid off 100%.

And also please don't give up. It may take months before you start
seeing
true success - heck it could be even longer then that. But you need to
realize that if you're putting your all into the business and treating
it
like a business and not a hobby then it will pay off. It might just
take a
little longer then you had hoped.

What is the best thing about being a WAHM?

Well this one is easy, Amanda. ;) And I'm sure you know what it is. Of
course the BEST is that I'm home with my son. I get to be his mommy
every
single day all day long. I don't miss out on any of the wonderful
milestones
in his life and I get to have fun everyday!

Second to that is that I truly love what I do. I've been blessed by the
Lord
with a business that I'm passionate about and that makes me money. I'm
truly
an entrepreneur and could never see myself working for someone outside
the
hone again.

I actually look forward to the morning now so I can sit down and start
"working" but before I would DREAD the morning even as soon as the
night
before. There is nothing quite like loving what you do for a living.

Thank you Amanda for this opportunity to share my story. I wish all the
moms
out there the best with their businesses.same goes for you.

Three Types of Websites That Can Make You a Fortune

Three Types Of Websites That Can Make You A Fortune
By Joel Comm
One of the best things about making money on AdSense is that anyone can do it - and with just about any type of website. You don't have to own a mini-Amazon or build a budding Ebay to make big stacks of cash on the Internet; you just have to have a site that attracts users.

AdSense For Owners Of Commercial Sites
A lot of people who have built a website specifically to make money worry about putting ads on their sites. They're concerned that people might be put off buying if their browsing is interrupted by intrusive ads.

That's absolutely right. If your ads are intrusive, then you are going to annoy your users. But if you've used all the strategies I recommend in my book Google AdSense Secrets to blend your ads into the site, then not only will you keep your users sweet, you'll also increase the number of your click-throughs.

Not everyone who reaches your site will buy. In fact, most won't. You've paid for those users; shouldn't you profit from them? Put AdSense ads on the right pages and in the right way and you'll make even more money from your site. And that's the point, right?

AdSense For Owners Of Information Sites
Information sites are probably the most obvious places to put AdSense. If you've created a site that's designed to teach other people about your favorite topic - whether it's video games, mahjong or raising guppies - then AdSense is ideal for bringing your site money. Again, you'll still need to be smart about the way you use those ads (just put them on the site any old how and you'll barely make enough money to pay for the server.) Do it properly and use all the proven AdSense revenue-generating techniques and you'll be able to turn your hobby into cash.

AdSense For Owners Of Blogs
Blogs are intended to simply let people know what their writers think - and do no more than that. But a lot of bloggers have recently discovered that with the help of AdSense, their blogs can quickly become cash cows! Because they're updated regularly, Google loves blogs and because they have regular visitors so do advertisers.

The techniques used to get blog readers to click on ads are a bit special but once you've read up and know what you're doing, you should be able to turn your writing into a very nice income indeed.

Common Work at Home Scams

Common Work at Home Scams

Scams are every where online. Just about every where you go online you will find ads for so-called "easy and fast money" jobs. Anything that promises "easy money" or "big bucks part time" is full of it. Don't waste your time on something that promises fast and easy money because it's not going to happen.
Let's delve into the scams out there and then talk about resources you can use to research a company!

Common work at home scams to avoid

Typing "Jobs" - you can type in typing jobs in any major search engine and you'll pull up many of these so-called "jobs" typing for "easy" money. Most of the time you will pay a fee, and then they will send you information about how to place ads in local papers to "sell" this so-called job to others. This simply is not a "job" and it's nearly impossible to make a decent income with this. They post testimonials that are either made up or of successful internet marketers in order to persuade you into believing this is a great "job" for you.

Envelope Stuffing - I'm sure you've seen this one everywhere and might have fallen for it. I sure did. Not once, but twice! I thought, "Well the first company was just a scam but this one looks legit" and, yes, I was wrong. I got scammed by this little sucker twice! Please do not fall for this tempting "job". What you'll probably receive (what happened to me) for your "small fee" (which is usually how its worded) is a letter telling you to place that same "envelope-stuffing" ad in newspapers, magazines, online sites and anywhere else you can get your ad. The only way you will earn money is to pass on this scam to other moms who desperately want to work at home. There's no stuffing of envelopes involved. You simply pass on this scam to others and get paid by charging a fee...the same way it happened to you. Please don't fall for this HUGE waste of time and please don't pass this scam on to others.

Assembly/Crafting Scams- If you want to make money with assembly or crafting your best bet is to start your own business and sell your work online, locally and at fairs. The so-called jobs online for assembly or crafts are scams. Usually you will be required to buy supplies or a kit and then, after days or weeks of work, you would send in your work for payment. What usually happens is your work supposedly didn't meet the standards they have and they will either send it back for you to fix or they will keep it and not pay you. If you get the chance to "fix it" and send it back you’ll again be told it didn’t meet the standard. It's a nasty on going cycle and the end result is that you've wasted your hard earned money on the "kit" and you've wasted your valuable time for nothing.

Processing Government Refunds- Boy this one sounds pretty interesting huh? Yet another scam for you to avoid. What the meat of this scam? Basically you'll see ads that you can earn $500 to $1500 a week processing 3rd party government refunds via your computer. You are told that you'll get a list of people who might be home owners and might be entitled to a refund by HUD. They make you pay up to $300 (or even more) for this list. What you’ll do is contact these people and try to get them to share the refund with you, BUT what they fail to tell you is these people can get refunds FREE by calling HUD themselves.

So, if you go through this list and find a few people owed a refund, phone them up and tell them why you're calling, one of three things will happen:

1. They will hang up on you

2. They’ll listen to you, then tell you that their going to research this themselves. Doing so they will find out they don't need you and can get the refund on their own. Therefore you make nothing.

3. You find someone who actually takes you up on your offer. You "help" them get the refund they could have done on their own and you collect your portion. You've basically scammed that person out of all the money owed to them by withholding the fact that they can do this on their own and collect all the money.

Just stay away from this - it's bad for all concerned. And in fact, the HUD site warns people of these so-called "tracers" ... that the public can collect a refund without a “tracer.”

Chain Letters- This usually guarantees you to earn large amounts of money with a one time small investment. (See the trend? Scams ALWAYS ask you for money.) The typical chain letter scheme usually requires you to mail the chain letter, along with a specified amount of money to six (or more) people. And then they must do the same. There just simply aren’t enough people in the world to make this worth your time. AND, it's illegal! The post office says that chain letters are a form of unauthorized lottery and may violate federal mail fraud laws. They also warn not to waste your money! Read more about this at US Postal Service Inspection Services

Medical Claims Billing- I'm sure you've seen this everywhere and it may have caught your eye. This one caught my eye, but I was fortunate enough to meet someone who told me to stay away. The ad will usually state you can make tons of money part time doing "Medical Billing/ Claims Processing. The fee for the software and training can be as high as $7500 or even more. You supposedly get a list of doctors and sample letters in order to gain clients. Although this isn't necessarily the typical scam, it's not as easy (or possible) as they claim it to be. If you want to do this I would take a local class on Medial Billing (or an accredited online school) and then get an offline job doing this...then build your client list and make it home-based.

What have we learned from the examples above? If you have to pay a free, it's a scam, rip off or just not worth your time! So stay away from the above scams.

I would also like to discuss some common red flags to look for with any job offer.

They ask a fee - you should NEVER pay for a job

They claim it's easy work - a real job is never easy

They claim you can earn great money for little work - a real job will never claim you can make riches with little to no work.

They have testimonials about the "job" - a real job offer isn't going to need testimonials posted. Why would they? If they aren't trying to sell something to you, then they won't need to convince you that it's worth your time.

If it says "no kits, no fee's, not MLM...etc." - a real job isn't going to post that in their job ad. If you find a "job" advertised like that you can guarantee it's a business opp. or outright scam.

The words "No Experience Necessary" - although there are some jobs out there that don’t require experience they often won't make that a big part of their ad (or at all) and usually you find this on scam ads.

A 900 number to call for more information - any legitimate company will call you or provide you with an 800 number. If they are a smaller company and don't have an 800 number, then if you inform then you don't wish to use your long distance to call them, they will usually call you.

Work at Home Grandmother Success Story Interview -Sandi Clark

Work at Home Mom Success Story Interview with Sandi Clark of www.sandistastygreetingsandgifts.com

What is your home business?
I have several under the guise of Sandi's Tasty Greetings & Gifts

When did you start?
Sandi's Tasty Greetings & Gifts started in June of 2004. I started off with Greeting Cakes and have added several products since then like, Fruta Vida, PlantMakers, Knot Blankets, and more.

Are you making money?
Yes I am. I always make sure I have several items to choose from by several different companies.

What is your advice to other moms wanting to work from home?
Don't give up and believe in your products. ESPECIALLY believe in yourself. Keep up on all the information you can on your products as there are people out there who want to take your clients. Also know your competition. Be patient, you won't get rich overnight.

What is the best thing about being a WAHM?
The best thing is that you have the best of both worlds - Your children and your job. Working from home is a job, not a sideline. It is YOUR job. It's also nice to work in my jammies LOLOL. You set your own hours around your family. It's an honorable way to make a living.

About Sandi:
My name is Sandi Clark. I am 48 years old. I have 2 natural children, 2 stepchildren, 3 grandchildren, 1 husband who is an 18 wheeler truck driver, and 2 of the cutest dogs in the world. I am a disabled veteran. I served my country for 11 years in the Air Force. One of my natural children was born mentally challenged so I gave up my career to be a stay at home mom to take care of him. To this day, I have never regretted that choice.

To make Money from home you need to act like you are going to a job!

If you are here chances are that you want to make money from home and run a successful online business. If you want to make money from home then you need to "act" like you are going to a job everyday otherwise your home business will surely fail or atleast not grow. I know this from personal experience.

When I first started my home business, I started it as a hobby and I really didnt put the time, commitment, and professionalism into that I should have. I didn't set goals, I didn't get organized, and I didnt even have a real business plan! I just put some information on some pages and said I am officially in business! Well I finally realized that this will not work. I realized I needed to act like I was going to a job and what I mean by this is that I needed to be a "professional". If you have ever worked outside the home then you know you have to be on time, look & act profesional, and do a certain amount of work each day. This is how you need to be ( to some extent) in your home business if you really want to be sucessful.

At Home Support For Work at Home Moms, How Important is it?

____________________________________________
Your First and Most Important Sale is At Home
By Warren Greshes

I'll never forget the day I decided to start my own business (it was two decades ago, when I still had hair!) I came home and told my wife. Normally, when you tell someone you're starting your own business, you'd expect them to say, "Are you sure this is what you want to do?" Or, "Do you think this is a good time to quit your job?" Or even, "What kind of business are you starting?" Not my wife. She turned to me, looked me right in the eye and said, "It's about time." How could I possibly fail?

Starting and operating a small business is not easy. It takes a tremendous amount of energy and time, along with a total unwavering commitment. More than fifty percent of new businesses don't make it past the first five years.

Sales is an extremely hard profession because it entails so much rejection. Far more people say "No," than "Yes."

It takes time to build your business and your customer base. Even after you become successful, it's not over. It takes the same effort to stay successful.

Salespeople and business owners, especially new ones, go out there every day and get their brains beaten in. The last thing you need is to go home and get your brains beaten in. Home has to be the one place you can go for unflinching, no questions asked, support.

If you are contemplating starting your own business, or a new career in sales, make sure you have total support at home. If you don't, I'd think twice about making the move.

Salespeople and business owners, especially those first starting out, work long hours; many of them work nights. I have seen numerous careers and businesses sidetracked because a non-supportive spouse couldn't understand why their spouse wasn't home more often. They also couldn't understand why those long hours weren't yielding an immediate monetary bonanza. But, as I've said many times before, money is always the last thing that comes. It is a by-product of all that action. How can you possibly expect to get through those early lean times without total support at home?

One solution I've found is to bring your spouse into the process. First, sit them down and have them buy into your long-term plan. Solicit their input. Explain about the long hours, possible nights and weekends and show them when you might expect to see some real money out of the effort. Then, take them to work with you.

I think the best thing you can do is have your spouse spend a couple of days on the job with you. Have them come into the office or out on sales calls. Let them see what you do when you work those nights and weekends. Let them see how hard you're working. I'm sure that will give them a better appreciation for what you do.

I know the first time I brought my wife out with me on a road trip it was a real eye-opener. The first morning we were back home she remarked, "I'm so tired and all I did was sit and watch. I can't imagine how exhausted you must be."

Everyone needs somebody in their corner. Everyone needs a safe place they can go to feel good about themselves when all around them seems to be crumbling. If you can't convince the people at home to be in your corner, no matter what, how are you ever going to convince your clients?

Top 10 Ways to Stay Sane as a Work at Home Mom

Top 10 Ways to Stay Sane as a Work at Home Mom
by Nicole Dean

The other day, someone asked me what it's like to be a work at home mom. I just blinked back at him, my mind blank. How could I possibly describe life as a work at home mom? Only someone who's lived it can understand the juggling act it requires.

Work at home moms have the usual responsibilities of being a mom - folding laundry, scheduling doctor's appointments, helping with homework, reading bedtime stories, and basically being on call 24-hours a day. In addition, there is the conundrum of how to find time to work and answer emails, do networking, update bookkeeping, make phone calls, and more. And, it must fit into a 24 hour day. So, how do we do it? How do we stay sane in the chaos?

It's disclaimer time. I am not the person to give advice on sanity. I'm pretty sure I filed away my sanity last year when I did taxes. I have my days where I say "That's it! I'm getting a regular job!" But, then I talk to my wonderful friend who reminds me of the reality of the real world -- the traffic, the boss who won't let me go to my son's field trip, and the fact that I'd probably have to buy pantyhose again. She manages to slap some sense back into me every time. I hate pantyhose.

Working from home the last few years, I've picked up a few handy tips. They aren't magic beans, that, when planted, will grow you a nanny and a housekeeper, but they can help you to enjoy being a work at home mom just a little bit more.

10. Freezer Cooking! This is my personal life-saver. Spend one day during the week or one day each month assembling meals and your reward is a freezer filled with food. Then, when it's time to make dinner, just grab a healthful, inexpensive meal from your freezer, heat it up and serve. Think about it. Next time you cook dinner, quadruple the recipe and put what you don't eat into the freezer for later. Presto! Magic food will appear in your freezer the next time you need it.

9. Pay it Forward- By helping others, it reminds us that many of our own problems are much smaller than they appear. Whether you donate money, give blood, or volunteer your time, you are setting a beautiful example for your children. Involve your older kids and make volunteering a family activity.

8. Stay Healthy - Dust off your rollerblades, strap a pillow across your bottom and hit the pavement. Or surprise your children and the dog with a nice long walk.

7. Organize, organize, organize! If you're spending hours each week sorting through piles of paper, looking for receipts or "to do" lists, that is wasted time and unnecessary frustration. Sweep the Magic 8 ball, the empty jar of peanuts, the Slinky, and the Snickers wrapper off your desk right now. You can do it!

6. Save Money - As Benjamin Franklin wrote in Poor Richard's Almanac "A penny saved is a penny earned." Work at home moms know how hard it can be to earn a penny. So, do everything you can to save those hard-earned cents.

5. Time Management - Don't let Time Stealers make you work any longer than you need to. When you're sitting in front of your computer or talking on the phone, that is time away from your children. Always remember your "why". WHY are you working from home? If the reason is to spend more time with your kids, then figure out how to make that happen!

4. Learn and Learn some More! - Find a mentor or someone who you like the way they handle their business. Network with other moms who are successful, take online classes, or hire a coach. Invest in yourself and you'll invest in your business.

3. Play with your Kids - Whether you sit down to play a board game, or drive Hot Wheels around the carpet, there's always fun to be had. If you need some ideas, check out http://www.ShowKidsTheFun.com

2. Keep your sense of humor. Laugh every day! Turn off your computer, put in your copy of The Village People "YMCA" (I know you have one) and Dance! Dance! Dance!

And the number one way to stay sane as a Work at Home Mom .....

1. Always remember "The days are long, but the years are short." Although it oftentimes feels like the days drag by as a work at home mom, remember that the years are flying by. It's that reminder that keeps me grounded on days when the projects are heavy and the beach is calling.

If you're looking for me, you can find me at the beach!

Job Lead Websites To Use in Your Telecommuting Search

Job Lead Websites To Use in Your Telecommuting Search

Let me ask you a question: are you tired of using job sites only to find scam after scam? I bet you're nodding your head in agreement to that question. I know that I was sick and tired of spending all my time online searching for telecommuting jobs only to find scams. Any type of free job site is going to have a few scams, but some sites have more legitimate jobs than others, and some are easier to use than others.

There is one job site that I enjoy, have found the most legitimate jobs from, is the easiest to search through, and has a good variety of jobs. This site is http://www.craigslist.org/. If you've never used this job search website, I would start using it today!

What makes it such a superior job lead website? Well, let me tell you what I personally like about it. I like that there is an option to search telecommuting jobs only; not too many job sites have this option built into the search feature. You simply go to whatever city you want, select whatever category you want, and click on the telecommuting option. Then, it pulls up the telecommuting jobs! It's sooooo easy!

I also enjoy that there are so many great categories, and there are some really diverse categories. If you're looking for jobs in administration, biotech, writing, teaching or many others, you can find them at http://www.craigslist.org/.

I also enjoy that there are so many cities and countries to search through. If you're searching for Canadian telecommuting jobs, there are options to search that country. If you're looking for telecommuting jobs in Ireland, there is an option to search that country and many other countries as well. Plus well over 30 US cities!

To find the best results, I go to http://www.craigslist.org/ and start with the first city, Albany, and start with the first category, accounting and finance, and then start searching through every city and category! Sounds simple right? It is simple, but you need to stay committed to looking for jobs everyday.

Telecommuting jobs go fast, so searching everyday at Craigslist.org will be your best bet. You need to jump on the jobs the day they are listed. Is this going to take time on your part? Of course, but if you're serious about working at home, you will find the time to search everyday for jobs.

Craiglist.org is one of the easiest job search websites I've found, and it's one that I go to in order to find legitimate leads from every single day! My husband has even started using it to find offline jobs in our area.

I have other job search websites that you can try out listed on my MommysPlace site. I haven't used all of the websites on this list, so please know that I can't vouch for them all or tell you if they are the best to use. You should try as many as you want in order to decide which ones work best for you.

http://www.mommysplace.net/work_at_home_job_sites.html

Now get out there and get searching! I wish you the best with your job search.
